• Hermit Crab Care - Accessories

  Proper hermit crab care includes finding accessories that are fun & safe as well as attractive. Hermit crabs are scavengers & omnivorous, and I’m always amazed at what my crabs will consider food. I take this into consideration when looking for accessories.

  I find natural shells, rocks, coral, & driftwood to be very good choices. They look nice and make great places to play and hide.

  Hermit crabs (also known as tree crabs) are great climbers, and seem to really enjoy vertical decorations.

  A word of caution here. Hermit crabs are the Houdinis of the animal world. Vertical decorations must be placed carefully so as not to provide a way of escape.

  Plants can also make beautiful accents, however be prepared to replace them and make sure they are non-toxic as they will be eaten. Unfortunately this also includes plastic or silk plants making them unsuitable accessories.
